What was the prior day's trading like, and the overnight session?

🟢 August 25, 10:32am ET

Yesterday ground higher off 77k and spent the afternoon balancing just under 79k before the overnight bid took it out.

The push tagged 81.2k and was sold immediately, and this morning has been a steady one way fade that wicked under 78.2k before finding a bid.

Holding that low is what keeps the sweep a shakeout rather than a top.

Session Summary
02

What are we coming off of the last few days?

The run off the July base has been near vertical, carrying price from the low 60s into the 80s in under two weeks.

That advance is now backing into the February open just above 78k, the first level of consequence since the reclaim.

The 4-hour EMAs are still rising but flattening, and they have caught every pullback since 65k.

Are we near any key levels?

Price has slipped back inside Monday's range after the overnight sweep, a pullback rather than a break so far.

Above sits the monthly high at 81.3k and then the yearly open just under 88k, the level that would put the year back to flat.

Losing Monday's low near 76.6k is what puts that path back in question.

MMT Key Levels
04

Where are we trading with respect to value?

The overnight high tagged May's value area high near 81k and was rejected there, the first real test of that shelf since price left it in June.

May's point of control at 77k now sits just under the pullback, untested from above.

Turning that POC into support is what would confirm acceptance back into May's value.

Monthly TPO
05

Is there anything that stands out positioning-wise?

Perp CVD has been flat since Friday's sweep, drifting sideways even as price pushed another few thousand higher.

Spot CVD has kept climbing modestly through the same stretch, a steady bid rather than an impulsive one.

Spot carrying the move while perps stall is a different bid than the one that broke price out of the 60s.

What is the current narrative and sentiment?

Alts have started to participate over the last five days, with the broad market up double digits alongside BTC rather than lagging it.

The field is tightly bunched though, and outside of a name like STX most returns cluster right around BTC's own.

Broad participation without dispersion is a market moving together, not one picking winners yet.

5-Day Watchlist
07

Is there anything macro we are coming off of, or moving into?

Core PCE and the second read on Q2 GDP both land tomorrow, with consensus looking for inflation to firm to 0.2 percent while growth revises down from 2.1 to 1.5 percent.

Warsh then speaks Friday alongside the preliminary payrolls benchmark revision.

Two prints pulling in opposite directions, and then the Fed Chair with the last word on the week.

The fight over the February open

BTC climbed off 77k through yesterday and balanced just under 79k into the afternoon before the overnight bid took it out, tagging 81.2k and getting sold in the same hour. The London morning has been a steady one way fade from 80.6k that wicked under 78.2k before finding a bid, which puts the February open squarely at the center of the day. Holding that low is what keeps the overnight sweep a shakeout rather than a top.

The run off the July base has been near vertical, carrying price from the low 60s into the 80s in under two weeks, and the 4-hour EMAs have caught every pullback since the 65k reclaim even as their slope begins to flatten. Overhead sits the monthly high at 81.3k, which is also May's value area high, and then the yearly open just under 88k. Beneath, May's point of control at 77k is untested from above and Monday's low near 76.6k is where the constructive read comes off the table.

Positioning is where the character of the move has shifted. Perp CVD has been flat since Friday's sweep while spot CVD keeps climbing modestly, so spot is carrying this leg in a way it was not when price broke out of the 60s. Alts have started to participate on a five day basis but the field is tightly bunched, and Core PCE plus the second read on Q2 GDP tomorrow give the market its next real input.
